I.
Having rarely been
to the sea, I am surprised
to be fine flotsam.
II.
Floating the surface,
light and air bubbles, I learn
underwater breath.
III.
The sirens appear!
Breathing in water; go deep.
Into the darkest.
IV.
The world needs me back.
The songs of the world above,
calling to surface.
V.
Through the darkness, I
bound back towards the air, light.
Every shade: green.
VI.
The return is long.
Barely fitting this small sea,
I am left floating.

I love this album! It helps me imagine the micro and macrocosms in the earth and in the soil and in space! a multi-scalar, multi sensory experience of ecosystems across time and space. Warm golden light, slow crystal growth over eons, geological forces and deep time, walking through woods, looking at plants and the smell of petrichor (the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil) jen-du-chatsein

I've no idea how I'd hear this if I didn't know the techniques - there's a lot of shuffling sound about at different pitches and speed, lots of loops being snatched and grabbed and made to suddenly stutter or lurch. In contrast to the explicitly digital treatment, the source materials often sound warm and soft, with nature sounds showing up here and there: birds, unsurprisingly water, etc. And the unpredictable flow of the music often feels natural too.
